Tradition in our Family: A Generation That Is Built To Last

Family Bonding with TimepieceMy family is quite traditional. We try to keep what our parents taught us. And this has been also passed on to them from their parents as well. From family recipes to how we bring up our children. Here are some of the traditions kept in our family:

  1. Sunday Family Lunch – We make it a point that we see each other every Sunday. Gathering my husband’s side of the family, his sisters and brothers and their family. We share stories and testimonies. Catching up can make the family closer as my Father in law says.
  2. Tennis is our sport – my husband’s great grandfather was a tennis champion. Keeping the tennis blood within the family means tennis should be our family’s sport. And we do play every chance that we get.
  3. Omega Watch is our family’s official time keeper– as a family tradition when you reach the age of 18, you are given an Omega Seamaster Watch. This has been kept since my husband’s great grandfather gave his great grandfather this watch.
  4. Travelling Together As a family – Once a year we travel to another country and we have our picture taken at that country’s popular site. We have been doing this for years and we have quite a collection of pictures.
  5. Men in our family hunt ducks – Every 4th of July instead of having turkey, the men would go to the Central Valley in California to hunt. And whatever they get the women will cook.

These traditions are passed down from generation to generation. These are the things that help us shape our family’s identity. It also helps in shaping our family’s unity and closeness with one another. These traditions also fill us with good memories that we can go back to and cherish.

Just like a classic Omega watch, timeless in it’s beauty and elegance. A watch that can be passed on from one generation to another without loosing it’s immortal characteristic.

I would recommend visiting Chong Hing Jewelry Store where you can get authentic watches that can be a part of your family tradition.

My 25th Anniversary Gift

Anniversary gift can be watch or unique necklaceLooking for the perfect anniversary gift is quite difficult. My husband asked me ahead and really prepared for this special day. I had to choose something that can be functional, elegant and can last a long time. Something I can bequeath to my children and immortalize our 25th wedding anniversary.

Narrowing my choices to an expensive bag, which can eventually wear. Jewelry that can only be displayed and can also tarnish. A watch that can be functional and beautiful at the same time. I had to be practical with my choice. I of course chose a watch. Choosing the best watch is a no brainier. I chose an Omega Constellation Brushed Quartz watch. I had an Omega Watch in mind for a long time.

I had to choose a brand that is well known for its quality and craftsmanship. Knowing that this brand has already reached the moon, I trust that I will be able to give this watch to generations in my family. And as it will be passed on from one generation to another, they will remember the relationship that my husband and I had.
Its classic and timeless design was also a factor for me in choosing this watch. I love how elegant it looks and how it fits my small wrist. It’s not over powering. Although I choose the design with diamonds in white gold on white gold, it still looks simple.

My husband and I have immortalized this day with this special gift. I will look back and remember the moment he gave this watch to me. I appreciate all the effort that my husband has put into this. From asking me what I want a year from our anniversary to saving for this gift. This is really memorable for my family and I.

I also know that what my husband did for me has made an impact on my kids. And hopefully they will follow the same for their future mate. He not only imparted the importance of marriage but also imparted the importance of buying good quality items.

Choosing The Best Wrist Watch For My Daughter’s 7th Birthday

They say that the 7th birthday of a kid is the one of the most important day in their lives and it should be celebrated with a bang. I think it’s like a thanksgiving for giving your child 7 years of a blessed life and a fruitful childhood. They also say that this is the year when your kid would most likely appreciate a party for them. Imagine having an elegant party during their first birthdays…I guess they will not even remember it except through pictures and bedtime stories. The parents will most likely enjoy the food and the drinks but the celebrant would definitely not remember a thing. I can’t even remember if I had a party when I was 1 year old.

I know you would agree with me that every parent wants the best for their children. And giving them the best doesn’t have to be that expensive. You can give them a party and a gift without going beyond what you have or your budget. My daughter’s 7th birthday is fast approaching and I am thinking of throwing her a small party with few of her closest friends and schoolmates. What I am also planning is giving her a wristwatch. I think this is better than having a big party. She will wear this watch forever or until it fits her. What I mean is, this watch will be a part of her memories every time she uses it or she sees it.

I browsed the net and there are a few girls’ wristwatches that I think would fit her personality. Of course, I also asked her what she likes just in case someone will give her a wristwatch. Below are some of the choices that I am looking at right now and in a few weeks time, I will buy 1 for my princess. Of course I will not buy her an Omega watch this time, but when she reach 16, I will definitely give her one.

  1. LEGO Kids’ 9002885 Belville Analog Watch
  2. Fossil (Pink Color)
  3. Hello Kitty Quartz
  4. Baby G Shock

I have considered functionality, practicality and of course the color “Pink” which is my daughter’s favorite color. I am also considering getting a watch, which will not be outgrown so fast hence I considered elegance and it’s classic look. I am still undecided until now. Help me choose one for my daughter.

Preparing For Your Wedding And Choosing The Best Watch

Tags

wedding gift omega watchYou need to prepare for the marriage more than preparing for your wedding. This saying is true but I would also recommend that you should also prepare well for one of the most memorable event of your lives. This will only happen once and you really need to make it a once in a lifetime experience.

I remember when I proposed to my wife and how I didn’t prepare well on my actual proposal. I bought this really beautiful engagement ring from a jeweler downtown. After buying it, I asked my soon to be fiancé on a date. We went out for a dinner in a fancy restaurant, after a few hours, while we were drinking our coffee, I planned on dropping the ring inside her coffee cup but it didn’t happen. So I asked her to go with me on top of a hill overlooking the city. While we were having a great conversation, I got the ring out and knelt down on my knees and popped the question “will you marry me?” She saw the box of the ring but the ring was not inside the box. I dropped the ring on the grass. Good thing I felt the ring immediately and went back to my proposal stunt. Whew…that could have been a major goof up.

Why am I saying all these? You need to prepare for your wedding. You cannot afford to have major boo boo. From the caterer down to your wedding coordinator, you have to be on top of it. As a groom, you need to prepare for your outfit as well. Most of the times, the focus is on the bride. Yes, while it may be the bride’s special day, but getting married would need a groom to make it a wedding, right? Good thing about being a groom is that you only need to think about a few things. First is your suit. You have to look dashing but not so much that you would look like a bride already. You only have two accessories to think of and that is your ring and your watch. Your watch should make you look like you’re in control of the celebration. Of course you have to match your watch with your taste. Following are some tips on how to choose your wristwatch for this special occasion.

  1. Your watch should match the color of your belt and your shoes.
  2. Decide if you’re going for the leather strap or the metal strap. I would go for leather for a formal occasion.
  3. Big watches are usually a hit for guys. Small watch dials would make you look like a bride.
  4. Don’t wear anything with too much diamonds or something that’s too catchy. Go for the conventional type of mechanical watches instead of wearing a digital or an automatic watch. You can choose from a variety of Omega Watches that will suit your requirement.

Being prepared for this most special day in your life is a must. Wear the best but don’t go overboard and shift the focus on you. Remember there are two of you in this momentous event.

How I Removed A Scratch On My Wrist Watch

Tags

old-omega-watchI find it very annoying every time I look at my watch and see scratches all over it. At one glance, it’s not that obvious but as I stare at it, it’s there. I tired wiping it with a lint free cloth and toothpaste but it didn’t work. I hate going back to where I bought it because it takes a lot of my time going there and having it cleaned. I searched the Internet on ways how to clean my watch and get rid of those annoying scratches. Thank God for the Internet. I saw hundreds of sites teaching you how to remove scratches. I even read one telling me to use toothpaste, I thought I was the only one using this style.

I want to share with you what worked for my watch. Read on as I give you step-by-step process on how you can clean your wristwatch especially if it’s an expensive one.

  1. First off, I have learned through experience that reading your wristwatch manual pays a lot. So let me suggest that before you touch your favorite timepiece, read your manual and check all angles. Check if it’s still under warranty or will it void your warranty should you touch it on your own.
  2. Prepare a soft towel or a lint free cloth. Make sure that it doesn’t have any dust particle or anything that would scratch it even more. You don’t want your watch to look like a glass with a wig right?
  3. Use a jeweler’s rouge powder with warm water. Check with your jeweler if you can purchase this powder from them. I got mine from a hardware store. You can also go online and purchase this compound.
  4. This buffing compound mixed with warm water will form a paste that you can use in buffing your watch. Apply this on the glass and rub it in a circular motion using a cotton ball or a cotton swab. Rub it continuously in one direction. Let this paste sit on the watch for 8-10 minutes.
  5. Before removing the paste, mix ½ oz. of ammonia with 2 cups water and spray it on top of the watch and as you wet the whole face, gently wipe it clean with your cloth until paste and ammonia is already wiped out.

I was able to remove the scratched on my Omega Watch and I know you will be able to remove yours as well. Follow these guidelines and make sure that you check your watch manual first.

Perfect Watch For My 12th Year Wedding Anniversary Gift

omega-speedmaster-professionalWhen you want the excitement to last longer, you have to have new ideas how to do stuff for your special someone. I learned this a few years ago when I attended a seminar conducted by Mark Gungor. Mark helps married couples with their marriages through new concepts and biblical ideas. One thing I learned from him is that when you are planning something for your wife, let’s say a date, you can tell her in advance that you will have a date on that particular time and date. Imagine telling her today that you will take her out tonight on a romantic date night at One If By Land, Two If By Sea. The excitement will only last for a few hours compared to telling her a month in advance and making her excited for 30 days. Imagine what she would feel for 30 days. Super excited!

We will be celebrating our 12th year anniversary in a few months time and I intend to give her a hint of what my plans are. I am also thinking of giving her a present that she will be using for a long time. Jewelry or a wristwatch would definitely be on top of my list. I was checking out the Internet for classic timepieces for women. Here are some of the best options that the net has for my budget:

  • Cartier Women’s Tank Fracaise Watch
  • Gucci Women’s Tornabuoni Watch
  • Omega 4135.75.00 Deville Prestige Watch
  • Cartier pink Mother Of Pearl Dial Sapphire
  • Chanel H0968 J12 White Ceramic

There are a lot on the Internet and to tell you honestly, I need to this now so I could still save up for the “one” watch that I will give to my wife. Of course I want to get the best out there and I want it to be memorable. Getting an Omega Watch would likely be on top of my options but I am still looking at the Cartier and the Chanel.

Whether it’s the Omega or the Chanel, I bet you my bottom dollar that once I tell her my plans and give her a hint of what I am giving her as a wedding anniversary present, she will go crazy and excited. That’s months of pure excitement.

Top Three Picks: Men’s Watches

Omega Watch SeamasterI personally love watches. Over the years I have collected several brands like Tag Heuer, Omega Watch, Franck Muller, Oris and other more brands. I don’t know about you but when it comes to wristwatches, I just can’t stand looking at it. I need to buy it.

I’m a big fan of leather straps. There’s something about worn leather and the smell of a genuine strap. I like the combination of a brown strap on a black dial and I consider it classic. I am currently eyeing on the latest model of Patek Philippe, which has a black strap, and a black dial that has an applied hour markers colored in gold. What a killer…classic and elegant at the same time.

Personally I would go for something classy that I can wear in almost all engagements that I may have. Although I have collected several watches for different occasions, I still have my favorites that I wear in almost all my dealings. Have you heard of Omega’s Specialties Collection? Here you can find several timepieces, which would really blow your mind. There’s this Omega 3202 that is in black strap and the white gold color matches the black dial, which makes it a classic timepiece.

I may sound like an Omega Watch ambassador but I am not, although I wish I were so that I can enjoy all their timeless collections.

Let me share with you my top five pick for men’s wristwatches:

1. Omega 3203

– Black dial with white gold casing and black leather strap. This is a limited edition, which makes it more elegant since only a few of this will be released.

2. Patek Philippe 5207R-001

– It may take a long time before I can purchase this elegant watch but this is surely a winner. It has a black strap, black dial and a gold applied hour markers. From what I’ve researched, strap is made from alligator scales and hand-stitched.

3. Tag Heuer Monaco V4

– Owned by the famous Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, this watch is also a limited edition with a price tag of $80,000. Comes with a black alligator strap with a platinum case. Pricey but super classic. I love to have one of this.

My preference is not limited to black leather strapped wristwatches. I also like watches with silver straps. Whether it’s leather or silver, what matters is how you wear it.

Simple Tips to Cleaning your Watches

Tags

You need to clean your watches ones in the while; especially the appearance of the watch is dull, full of dirt due to sweat, water spills or dust. Watches became faded-look because you store it for a long time, most specially if your watch is expensive as Omega watch, Rolex, Tag Heuer, Patek Philippe. You need to clean it periodically even if you didn’t use it because it will lead to damage some mechanical parts of the watch.

There are different methods in cleaning your watch. It depends on the material used in the watch. I will cover on how to clean some of the watches and stainless steel watches.
Preparation

You need to prepare some of the materials needed in cleaning your watches:

  • Bowl – make it small that can submerge the wristband)
  • Brush –There are brushes that specially made for cleaning watches or you can use toothbrush for this task but ensure that the brush have a mild bristles.
  • Soft lint free cloth
  • Mild detergent
  • White vinegar – for leather-made wristband.
  • Water
  • Alcohol – this can be optional and don’t use in gold watches

Cleaning your watch

1. Prepare your watch for cleaning. Remove the wristband of the watch. If you cannot remove it (lack of material for assembling the band from the watch), be sure that the watch itself didn’t submerge into water.

2. Put a little detergent into the bowl. Fill the bowl with water (if the wristband is leather, put a small amount of vinegar into the water) and gently submerge the wristband. Be careful not reach the watch (if you cannot remove it from the band).

3. Soak the wristband in a couple of minutes. If the dirt is heavy, try to soak it in an hour to soften the dirt from the corner.

4. While soaking the wristband, get the soft bristle brush and gently brush the watch itself. Just dry clean the watch, use lint free cloth to do this task.

5. After soaking the wristband, gently brush the wristband from the surface up to the corners of the band.
6. Wash the wristband into running water. Try to brush the band while washing the band to remove some detergent in hard to reach areas.

7. After washing, dry clean the wristband with a dry lint free cloth and let it air-dry the band. Be sure that there’s no moisture left in the wristband.

8. After all the steps are made, re-assemble your watch using watch tools or other wristbands are easy to snap-in to the watch.

There you have it, simple steps to clean your watches, doing it regularly will take care of your watch, looks new, and prevent build-up of dirt in the corner of wristband and the watch.
